CDL Major Qualifiers Week 3 – Day 1: Minnesota Røkkr 0-3 to Atlanta FaZe

Map 1: Tuscan Hardpoint

Tuscan Hardpoint was the first map of the series, one of Atlanta FaZes’ best maps. Within the first 10 seconds, FaZe Abezy went on a 4-kill streak, which allowed FaZe to gain control of the hardpoint. Røkkr was able to briefly break the hill, but shortly after FaZe, came swarming in with FaZe Cellium leading the charge. Røkkr was beginning to close the gap on the church hill but soon found themselves hitting a brick wall as Atlanta FaZe held the parameter of the church to extend their lead 101-53. As the kill feed bleeds red with the colors of FaZe, Minnesota Røkkr struggles to put kills on the board. With Atlanta FaZe accumulating over 200 points, Røkkr manages to break the back fountain hill. But, just as things are beginning to go in Minnesota Røkkrs’ favor—the man that has been a thorn in their side all match long, FaZe Abezy—pops a three-piece and wipes out the majority of the Røkkr squad. Røkkr fights tooth and nail to the end. Sadly, they lose map 1, and Atlanta FaZe wins 250-163.

Map 2: Tuscan Search & Destroy

On Map 2, FaZe Abezy goes for the fast plant round and manages to get the bomb planted. FaZe Arcitys finds himself in a 1v2 situation against Røkkr Standy and Attach and is killed in the hands of Standy. Attach defuses the bomb, and round 1 goes in favor of Minnesota Røkkr. FaZe Abezy finds a massive 2-piece on Røkkr Attach and Prestahh at the start of round 2 and FaZe ties up the game 1-1. FaZe Cellium takes a plunge off the edge of the map leaving his teammate Simp in a 1v2 situation. Simp can’t find the kills he needs, and Røkkr now leads 5-3 over Atlanta FaZe. Minnesota Røkkr has the map 2 victory insight because they only need one more round to close it out. Suddenly, everything that could go wrong for Røkkr does go wrong: Atlanta FaZe walks away with the map 2 win, 6-5. FaZe now leads the series 2-0 over Røkkr.

Map 3: Tuscan Control

As we go into the third and final map, Minnesota Røkkrs’ back is against the wall. Win this or go home with a devastating defeat in week three of the CDL Qualifiers. FaZe Abezy and FaZe Simp come out of the gates piping hot, Abezy with an impressive 5-kill streak and Simp not far behind. Minnesota Røkkr has time on their side towards the end of the first round of this control match, but Røkkr Attach quickly finds himself in a 1v4 situation. With the weight of the world on his shoulders, he does everything he can to kill the remaining Atlanta FaZe members. Attach does not have enough gas in the tank and FaZe goes up 1-0 in this Control match. The next round unfolds like the first, Minnesota Røkkr cannot find the kills they need to win. Atlanta FaZe leads the charge 2-1. Minnesota Røkkr does win a round from FaZe, but it is not enough as FaZe wins the game 2-1, resulting in a 3-0 sweep over Minnesota Røkkr.
