RLCS NA WINTER INVITATIONAL DAY 1 RECAP

Version1 vs NRG

 After NRG netted an early opening goal, Version1 took control of the remainder of Game 1 with the whole team playing impeccable defense and Torment netting both goals to give V1 the 2-1 win. NRG were able to even the series after making the only goals in the second game. Constant offensive pressure was felt across the pitch in Game 3 with both teams connecting for multiple goals. However, NRG were able to net 3 goals to V1’s 2, advancing to series point. Game 4 progressed to overtime after both teams deadlocked at 1-1. A back-and-forth OT saw near misses for either side, but Torment was able to connect for the deciding goal, giving V1 the 2-1 win and sending the series to a fifth and final game. Game 5 was a battle, as neither team wanted to drop the series. Comm netted a quick-opening goal to give V1 their first early lead of the series. Sustained offense from Version1 allowed Torment to continue his dominance and cement the 2-1 Game 5 win with another goal. V1 took the series win 3-2.

Version1 vs Team Axle

BeastMode kicked off the second series of the day with a swift opening goal for Version1. Despite an equalizer coming in from Team Axle, V1 continued their aggression, and Torment was able to net a second goal for his team to secure the Game 1 win. A scoreless first half marked Game 2 as both teams saw opportunities on the attack. Team Axle were able to answer first with back-to-back goals as the latter half of the match began. A heroic play from Torment mounted the comeback for V1 and with a second goal from BeastMode Game 2 was sent to OT. In overtime, a beautiful pass play from Comm set up Torment for the winning goal, putting Version1 on series point. A neck-and-neck third game remained scoreless as incredible saves were made at both goal lines. As the game moved into the second half, V1 answered first but were quickly neutralized by Axle who tied the game at 1-1. Another perfect pass play from Comm gave BeastMode his second goal of the game. Version1 cemented their victory with back-to-back goals from Comm, giving them a 4-1 Game 3 win and a 3-0 series win.

Version1 vs Complexity

       In their third series of the day, V1 matched up against Complexity in the battle for the first seed. The opening goal went in favor of Version1 after a fight for ball control on the goal line ended in an own goal. With less than 20 seconds on the clock, Complexity were able to net the equalizer and with no time to answer, Game 1 went to overtime. The OT kickoff went to V1 who were quick to capitalize and solidify the Game 1 win with a swift goal. Continuing the momentum into the second game, BeastMode netted the opening goal for V1. Despite solid defense from Version1, a set of goals gave Complexity a 2-1 lead that they were able to hold onto for the remainder of the game, tying the series at 1-1. Complexity led early in Game 3, but Torment answered for Version1 to even the score. After a second goal went in their opponents' favor, V1 were unable to respond and conceded the third game to Complexity, putting them on series point. A spectacular play from Torment gave Version1 the early lead in Game 4. Complexity fought back with a late-game goal equalizing the score at 1-1. With neither team able to net a secondary goal, the game moved to overtime. A misdirect from Complexity moved Version1’s defense out of place, allowing for them to connect with the series-deciding goal. Complexity closed out the series 3-1. 

With their loss, Version1 finished 2-1 in group play and moved to play M80 in the lower bracket to secure their spot in the Top 8.

Version1 vs M80

Version1 took an early 1-0 lead in the opening game of their fourth series after an on-target shot from Comm. The remainder of the first match was scoreless, giving V1 a clean Game 1 win. Offensive pressure across the field resulted in opening goals for either team. Heroic saves from Torment kept the scoreboard even, and the second game transitioned to overtime. Incredible teamwork from V1 culminated in the winning goal from BeastMode, putting them on series point. A back-and-forth third game went in favor of M80 after they successfully kept V1 out of the net and connected with a set of goals for themselves. Quick to regain, Version1 opened Game 4 with a set of goals from Comm. M80 fought to even the score, but airtight defense from V1 allowed them to maintain their advantage and close out the game, 2-1, and series, 3-1. With their victory, Version1 secured a position in the Top 8 and moved on to Saturday in the RLCS NA Winter Invitational.
