Minnesota Røkkr vs Seattle Surge

Røkkr completes reverse sweep against Surge ahead of Stage II Major
The mission was simple. Win and you’re in. With a victory in the final match of group play Røkkr could earn a spot in the Winners bracket for the Stage II Major. Not only was the journey difficult leading up to this match, but the path to victory was as difficult as ever. Røkkr had to pull the greatest trick of all out of the hat, the reverse sweep. Going down 0-2 in the series, Minnesota ripped off three straight maps to win. Røkkr will start the Stage II Major in the topside of the bracket; its exact position depends on tomorrow’s match between OpTic and Empire.
MAP 1 – Raid Hardpoint
Hardpoint has always been a sticking point of this Røkkr squad regardless of roster. The good news is that Røkkr made this map incredibly competitive. Rotations were back and forth and so was the scoreline with both teams trading leads and hills. Either team could have won on the final hill, but the slaying power of Seattle prevailed and took map 1. The Surge was led by Prestinni, finishing at 31/22.
MAP 2 – Express Search and Destroy
Old reliable was not so reliable for Røkkr in map 2. Seattle continued their aggression over the entire game, and the timing in many rounds was just not there for Minnesota. Surge took a quick 2-0 lead, but Røkkr answered back 2-2. Both teams went round-for-round until round 10. Seattle had a perfect offensive round onto the A site, and never looked back. Prestinni continued to be red-hot for Seattle, finishing 10/6 with 3 first bloods.
MAP 3 – Raid Control
A regular for Røkkr, Raid Control again made an appearance in match play. And much like the OpTic match last week, it followed the exact same script. Seattle and Minnesota traded defensive round wins, and Røkkr found a way in their second offensive round. Seattle chalked the A site early on, giving Rokkr 2:20 to break the B site. #StandyTheMandy finessed his life by the tiki bar and bought Minnesota just enough time to capture the second zone. Standy finished the map 31/21, dropping a whopping 5,775 in damage.
MAP 4 Garrison Hardpoint
In order to pull off the incredibly rare reverse sweep, Røkkr had to win a Hardpoint. You could tell early on the team knew its back was against the wall. Get over your Hardpoint woes or start in the loser’s bracket. Røkkr definitely answered the call. Minnesota only trailed in the game for a half a hill. Going into the second set of rotations Røkkr was in control. Priestahh made his presence felt, going 29/20, leading the team in K/D.
MAP 5 Miami Search and Destroy
While every map before the final showdown was close, Miami SnD was anything but. In the past this map has been hit or miss for Minnesota, but today it was a hit in a major way. Accuracy and Attach both had respective clutches, including a ninja defuse for Accuracy. Every member of Røkkr contributed; Standy led K/D at 9/5, and Accuracy led with two first bloods from range.
With the reverse sweep, Røkkr punched it to the winner’s bracket for Major II. Seeding and matchups will be set after group play concludes on Sunday.
