Minnesota Røkkr vs Toronto Ultra
CDL Qualifier 2 - Weekend 1 vs Toronto Ultra
After Minnesota Røkkr’s performance at the OpTic Major Arlington Texas last weekend the team was anxious to jump into the Major II qualifiers this weekend. They face off against none other than Toronto Ultra, in a match up that a lot of competitive Call of Duty enthusiasts call, “The Battle of the North.”
Map 1 – Gavutu Hardpoint
Minnesota Røkkr is the first team to jump in the hardpoint and start putting points on the board. The second hardpoint neither team has steady control of P2. As both teams rotate over to P3 Røkkr has Toronto Ultra in a choke hold holding them at around 30 points. Minnesota Røkkr is executing near perfect rotations as they extend their lead going into the next hill. Røkkr is shooting straight, rotating perfectly, and communicating like their lives depend on it, and its working. Minnesota Røkkr is now winning 138-98, their heels are dug in and they have their eyes on the win. Tragedy strikes on Gavutu as Toronto Ultra flip the script and manage to snatch the lead from Røkkr. Toronto Ultra ultimately win map 1, 250- 189.
Map 2 – Tuscan Search & Destroy
Tuscan Search and Destroy is one of Toronto’s best maps, but Røkkr has been a solid Search team all season long and are confident they can tie up this series 1-1. Minnesota Røkkr get the first blood and Ultra quickly finds themselves in a 1-3 situation. Attach finds the round winning kill and Røkkr are up 1-0. The next 2 rounds also go in the favor of Røkkr as they are now leading this map 3-0. Preistahh goes on a 5 kill streak before he is finally taken out, but it doesn’t even matter because Røkkr puts another round under their belt and are now up 4-0. Could this be the 6-0 victory Røkkr is needing to boost their confidence and moral? Toronto Ultra catch some wind in their sails and win 5 rounds in a row. Røkkr maintains composure and closes it out in a 6-5 victory. A little too close for comfort!
Map 3 – Tuscan Control
Toronto Ultra presumably frustrated after that map 2 loss are looking to shut Røkkr down in map 3. Ultra-end up taking the first round of the Control, but Røkkr claps back in the second round not allowing Ultra to get a single kill at the start of round 2. Røkkr now up by 6 lives seem to have found their groove. Toronto Ultra end up extending the time on the clock at the last second and must play perfect Call of Duty if they want a chance at winning the second round. Toronto fall short as they eventually run out of lives and Røkkr take round 2. It is not all rainbows and butterflies for Røkkr however, as they go on to lose the next two rounds in a row and Ultra win map 3, 3-1.
Map 4 – Tuscan Hardpoint
As Røkkr go into the fourth and potentially final map of the series they know they it is now or never. They need to lock it in, focus up and take this series to a game 5. Minnesota Røkkr knows this feeling all too well and they know what they must do. As the map kick off Ultra is going to be the first team in the hardpoint and start scoring right away. Røkkr continuing their perfect rotations are the first team to the second hardpoint but Ultra answers back and shuts them down before Røkkr can get anything going. Ultra Cleanx goes on an 8 kill streak and Toronto have complete control over this game. Røkkr show some life as they begin to slowly claw their way back into the game but the Ultra rath from Toronto is just too strong. Toronto Ultra win map 4 and take the series 3-1 over Minnesota Røkkr.
