Minnesota Røkkr vs Dallas Empire
Call of Duty League Stage 2 Majors
Start time determined by previous match results
Røkkr completes falls to Dallas Empire in the Stage II Major
Third time is the charm. Unfortunately for Røkkr, the charm went in favor of Dallas Empire. In their third matchup of the season and the third Map 5, Empire held on to claim the round 11 and the series on Miami. The series was the definition of a roller coaster. Hardpoints go to Minnesota, Searches to Dallas, further proving how backwards the series was. The match was truly a matter of seconds and small situations. Two round 11 searches, a round 5 control: it could’ve gone either way. Røkkr are still alive and will move to the lower bracket.
MAP 1 – Moscow Hardpoint
The inverse of what was expected to happen started off on Moscow. Røkkr looked like a world class hardpoint team, with the lead through the entire map. The rotations were elite, and the breaks were even more impressive. Moscow was Standys playground, finishing at 29/20 and 1:41 time in hill.
MAP 2 – Raid Search and Destroy
Our mode. Our map. Should be easy right? Never against the defending world champions. The experience of Crimsix paid off fully in the round 11 as he faked rotation and left rotating Røkkr players out to dry. Shotzzy was a fiend the whole map, racking up 3 first bloods and 11/7.
MAP 3 – Raid Control
A regular for Røkkr, Raid Control again made an appearance in match play, and early on it was all Minnesota. In two consecutive rounds for Røkkr, things were looking incredibly comfortable. But then the fateful round 4. Empire with 0.1 seconds to spare, find a way to send the map to a round 5. From there, Minnesota looked rattled and flustered, losing the round 5 decisively. Once again, Shotzzy was a force to be reckoned with. He finished at 39/29 and a map leading 6998 damage.
MAP 4 – Checkmate Hardpoint
If Minnesota were to survive, they had to take a second hardpoint away from the defending world champions. It wouldn’t be a series against Dallas without a map 5, and Røkkr delivered. The entire map was incredibly scrappy, and most hills were contested enough to where the game clock was a factor. But the 2nd point proved to be a godsend for Minnesota, where they finished the map. This map was the Attach show, finishing at 34/23 and 1:47 in hill.
MAP 5 Miami Search and Destroy
For the second time in a row, Røkkr went to a map 5, and that map was Miami. The map was back and forth, clinging on the AR battle between Crimsix and Accuracy. But in classic Empire vs Røkkr fashion, everything came down to a round 11. But bad luck struck Minnesota once again. An unfortunate team-nade took out Attach and threw the whole round in a blender. Each player was promptly picked apart by Dallas shortly after.
Despite the loss, Røkkr are still alive in the Stage II Major, in the lower end of the bracket.
