Day 0 of the RLCS X Spring Regional 2 took place on April 8, 2021. Our first matchup was against 72PC. Let’s get into the action!

Game 1: 0-1

As things got underway at DFH stadium, there was a bit of a slow start. Comm and Torment were running Octanes, while Gimmick was in … an NRG Fennec? ???? It wasn’t until Jacob scored the sole goal of the game two minutes in that any action transpired. The V1 guys had a near miss with a little over a minute remaining when they stalled the ball on the back wall, but couldn’t put it home.

Game 2: 2-1 OT

Things began with more aggression in the second game. It was a struggle at first, but Gimmick managed to launch one from the V1 defensive end straight to into 72PC’s net to give us the one goal lead. With less than a minute remaining, Jacob buried his second of the series to send things to OT. But just a minute into overtime, Comm made sure we didn’t fall in Game 2, slamming an errant clear to the back netting.

Game 3: 1-5

Sea-Bass seemed to be dead set on things not going the way of V1 in Game 3. He found a way to score quickly after the opening draw. Spyder scored the second shortly after that for 72PC. And then the third … and also the fourth. Torment made up a little ground, getting one for the good guys late, but Sea-Bass closed things out the way he started: with a goal celebration.

Game 4: 2-1 OT

It took a full two minutes of game time before Spyder was able to put one home, but a disgusting flick from Comm that Gimmick cleaned up leveled things at 1-1 with two minutes remaining. An incredible save from Torment kept things even and sent us to our 100th overtime (by a Rocket League fan’s count) as a team. Torment kept the momentum rolling and scored a goal to force a winner-take-all game five.

Game 5: 2-1 OT

As Game 5 kicked off, it was obvious neither team wanted to be the one to make any mistakes. Unfortunately for V1, 72PC scored the first goal of Game 5, but it was almost a full three and a half minutes into the final matchup. With several chances just not going our way, along with time not being on our side, Comm fought through the middle, shrugging off defenders and slamming one to force overtime with only ten seconds remaining. Things didn’t last long though this (over)time around, as Gimmick managed to fly off the left wall and put one top shelf.

It was a tough fight, but we closed out our first match of the event with 72PC 3-2.
