Version1 vs Oxygen Esports
RLCS Spring Split: The Grid Day 5
Match 3 v. Oxygen
It was a must-win final series for V1RL. To advance onto Day 6 and The Grid Playoffs we needed a LOT of things to fall into place including a Rogue loss and an EU win over Envy. None of it would matter unless we beat Oxygen.
Game 1: 2-1
We were only one minute into the series when we found two open-ish Oxygen nets to lock in a quick lead. Toastie scored one for the opposition, but that wouldn’t be enough. Things were back and forth for the first game, and they would be for the rest of the series as well.
Game 2: 0-4
Kraziks got things going initially for Oxygen and they never let off the gas in the second game. Kraziks finished with a hat trick and Oxygen took Game 2 0-4. Yikes.
Game 3: 3-1
Game three started off a bit bizarre, as two Oxygen players missed a slow roller that ended up going in for Gimmick somehow. Kraziks of course responded, making V1’s quick lead short lived. After being unable to convert on some chances, Gimmick broke the game open with a unbelievably well-controlled full-field air dribble. Torment finished it of with one more goal and V1 kept Oxygen at bay, 3-1.
Game 4: 2-3
Oxygen opened the fourth game of the series with a clean goal, but Comm countered with a gorgeous flick of his own moments later. Toastie continued to add to the tension and thankfully Torment broke things up a bit with a dirty double tap. It was locked at 2-2 until only thirty seconds remained and Oxygen broke the deadlock. V1 lost Game 4 2-3.
Game 5: 3-1
The decisive Game 5 promised more of the same action we’d been seeing all day. First it was Comm to open the scoring for V1, but seconds later Toastie and Oxygen found the net as well. An own goal with 2:30 left ensured a one goal lead for the V1 roster. Comm locked in the final goal of the series and V1 took the final game 3-1.
As the time expired on our match, we watched in anticipation as eUnited closed out their match against Envy… with a wild WIN! We’re T6 and on to Day 6 of The Grid!
