Version1 vs Envy
VALORANT Champions Tour 2021 North America Stage 2 Challengers Finals
Map 1 Split: 13-10
In the wake of Sentinels celebration for making it to Iceland, V1 and Envy queued up for some lower bracket action. Though pistol rounds went the way of V1, our attack on Split was tempered with stout defense by the Envy squad. Rounds played out fairly evenly, and Penny and Vanity hit double digit kills first at 11 and 10, respectfully. We closed out the half 7-5.
Our first two rounds after the switch were exciting, as we lock up two pistol rounds behind the in-game leadership of Vanity to buff up our economy going into the late rounds. With just a three round lead (11-8) there was a minor tech pause that seemed to give Envy some momentum again. But following some disappointing rounds from V1, the boys clutched up an intense 3v1 against Mummay to win map one 13-10.
Map 2 Haven: 12-14
As we loaded into map two, we saw a few different agent selects that were surprising as Mummay went with Astra for Envy and Wippie went Killjoy for V1. We lost our first couple round to try and take a pistol or two, but through six rounds of defense we found ourselves down 1-5. On the defensive half, we find ourselves down 4-8.
We transitioned to offense, and as Haven has indicated all weekend, it’s 100% an offensive map. We battled back to tie things up 8-8 thanks in part to some impressive slaying by Vanity along with consistent late-round play from Wippie. From there, rounds went tit-for-tat, where we found ourselves locked in at 11-11. Envy’s Mummay had the OP and it helped keep them in it, but Penny rocked a 4K in round 23 to force OT at 12-12! It just wasnt enough and Envy took map two.
Map 3 Ascent: 13-9
We’ve tried to be observant of the first two rounds as they are crucial to the outcome of the half, and we lost the first two pistols to go down 0-2 off the rip. But once we finally brought our economy up, we evened things at two rounds a piece. The give and take from both sides continued and we saw ourselves at a 6 to 6 gridlock at the side switch.
As we’ve mentioned earlier, Ascent trends attacker side. Even though it was a lock at 6-6, V1 was able to power their way to a 10-6 lead behind a monstrous 4K from Zellsis in round 15. Thanks to some consistent frags from Zellsis, Wippie and Penny – Effys and Vanity were able to lead us to a 12-9 match point. In what would ultimately be the final round against Envy, Mummay held on best he could but V1 took the round. We win!
