VERSION1 vs TBD
VALORANT Champions Tour Masters 2 Reykjavík
Version1’s run at the VCT Masters ends in loss to FNATIC
After a strong start at Masters, Version1 fell today to FNATIC in its first match in the lower bracket. V1’s run at the Stage 2 Masters had ended, but the team showed resolve and confidence on the international stage, pointing to bright days ahead.
Map 1 – Icebox
After losing the first four rounds, Version1 dug deep after boosting its economy and got two wins in a row to bring the score to 2-4. At that point, things started to even out. When Version1 scored to make it 5-5, FNATIC called in tactical timeout to regroup. Soon after, a short technical timeout followed. Things were even at six when Version1 switched over to offense. As it carefully regained some momentum, V1 took the lead 8-6. But it quickly slipped away and eventually FNATIC defused a bomb without much resistance from V1, gaining the lead 9-8.Not out of it yet, V1 took a timeout and came back to win two in a row, leading at 10-9. A close few rounds gave V1 the lead 12-10 over FNATIC. Even though match point was in its grip, V1 couldn’t hang on. Once again its opponent tied the game at 12-12. FNATIC won the first OT round and then quickly won the second, claiming map one, 14-12.
Map 2 – Ascent
Version1 shook off the first map and won the first two rounds. FNATIC fought right back, winning five straight to take the lead 5-2. Little could be said for the middle rounds—with V1 having such a low economy, very little ground could be made as FNATIC was in a comfortable lead at 8-3. After the switch, the pistol round was shaky and went the way of FNATIC who was also in command of the economy. A series of unfortunate plays and close losses followed and FNATIC fought against V1’s tactics and won multiple rounds, ending Version1’s run at Stage 2 Masters with a 13-6 win.
