RLCSX NA Spring Regional Day 1

Game 1: Torment opened the scoring at 4:17 off a pass from Comm and then Comm got his own just four seconds later. The game’s pace evened out a bit as the teams warmed up, until Beastabonium scored for Charlotte Phoenix and Andy beat Torment on defense to even the score, 2-2. Version1 regained the lead after Comm took a shot that was deflected away but Torment took advantage and put it in the net. Beastaboniam took a chance from midfield with about :20 seconds remaining and tied the game; the match headed to OT. No matter, Gimmick crushed a goal to take the W just seconds in. V1 wins 4-3.

Game 2: Charlotte Phoenix started off putting heavy pressure on V1’s defense and for much of the match, it was a battle in the middle of field. Despite the pressure, V1 managed to hold CP off until Delta drove down the field and scored with 2:18 remaining. That ended up being enough and CP won game 2, 1-0.

Game 3: The stalemate continued in game 3. Thanks to space allowed by CP on its half of the field, V1 kept the ball moving near the net and Gimmick put one away with about 1:25 remaining. CP turned up the pressure in the final minute, but V1’s defense was able to hold them off and take the game, 1-0.

Game 4: Despite some creativity from V1 that had CP on its heels, Beastaboniam was able to put CP on the board first. Torment answered shortly as the game neared halfway through regulation. Gimmick and Comm each nearly scored but CP made incredible saves to keep the game even at 1-1. Delta scored after a double commit from V1 in front of its own net. Despite an aggressive push by V1, Charlotte Phoenix managed to win and force a game 5. CP wins, 2-1. 

Game 5: V1 scored off the kick-off and Comm snuck a second goal after a strike that traveled the length of the field, making it 2-0 less than one minute in. Delta scored on a breakaway about halfway through the game. V1 turned up the defensive pressure to keep the lead and takes game 5, 2-1.

Version1 moves to 2-1 in the Regional, winning 3-2 against Charlotte Phoenix. Next up: Kansas City Pioneers.
