CDL Championship Weekend: Minnesota Røkkr prevails against LA Thieves with a 3-2 win.
After a heartbreaking loss to Dallas Empire on Day 1 of Championship Weekend, Minnesota Røkkr had to fight to stay alive in Elimination Round 1 against LA Thieves. After going down to the wire and a round 5, Minnesota came out top and lived to see another day.
Minnesota will now play either New York Subliners or Atlanta Faze in Elimination Round 2.
Map 1: Checkmate Hardpoint
Things started off strong for Røkkr but as slightly expected, the match started to flip, and LAT were making perfect plays. Halfway through the match, things were pretty much tied. Minnesota was holding their ground and made it pretty much impossible for LA to break through but before you knew it, LA took the lead and were on track to take the win. In the end, they did just that. LA won 250-213. Attach went 26/22 and Standy’s highest streak was 4 kills.
Map 2: Standoff Search and Destroy
Round 1 began to look grim for Minnesota. They were down in a 2v4 situation but Standy and Attach clutched up and took them all out and got the defuse.
Priestahh had his own clutch moment and came out on top in the 1v1 vs John and put Røkkr up 2-0. The Thieves managed to get an early bomb plant and picked off everyone and put a point on the board. Round 4 was a quick one as Røkkr cleared out LA with ease. LA answered with a similar strategy and played a flawless round. Standy even had a key moment where he finished off a 1v2 to win a round. LA tried to hang on but Minnesota took the win, 6-3. Røkkr had solid stats across the board.
Map 3: Raid Control
LAT captured A after a hard fight and were trying to storm point B. Røkkr were in great positions to hold them off and took round 1. In round 2, things came down to single digit lives while Minnesota were seconds away from capturing point B. LA defended to the best of their abilities and were able to hold them off. Minnesota managed to pull ahead of the tied score after another well played defensive round. Thieves answered back and tied the match once again. In the end, Minnesota prevailed in their last defensive round and won the match, 3-2.
Map 4: Garrison Hardpoint
In good hardpoint fashion, there was trading of kills and back and forth lead changes.
Minnesota couldn’t find a breakthrough and LAT proceeded to pull ahead. Røkkr had some moments where they closed in on the lead, but the Thieves were too far away.
LAT won 250-194 and forced a round 5.
Map 5: Miami Search and Destroy
What’s a Røkkr match without a round 5 Miami Search and Destroy?
Big plays from Kenny put LA up 1-0. In round 2, Kenny was the lone survivor in a 1v2 situation and Røkkr was able to close out the round. Minnesota found their second point in round 3 after well executed plays. The match was tied again after LAT’s Slasher and Kenny picked off Røkkr. In round 4, Priestahh got a double kill right off the bat and before anyone could blink, LA’s entire team was eliminated. Now up 3-2, Priestahh was on fire! Half of the Thieves fell under his bullets and Minnesota won the next round. LA fought their way back to a round win hoping to get some momentum going. They came up short and Rokkr won the next two rounds, ultimately winning the match 6-3. Priestahh went 13/5 and had a 7 kill streak.
