Minnesota Røkkr vs Los Angeles Thieves

CDL OpTic Major Day 2 – Minnesota Røkkr vs. LA Thieves

After an impressive 3-0 win against LA Guerrillas earlier in the day Minnesota Røkkr is looking to mimic that same performance against LA Thieves. This is the last match-up of the evening and both teams are currently undefeated in the tournament. Day 2 of the CDL OpTic Major I has been full of twists, turns, and major upsets, and predicting that this match-up will follow in those footsteps!

Map 1: Gavutu Hardpoint

Minnesota Røkkr is the first team to start scoring on the first hill. Both teams dance for control of the first two hardpoints. Attach goes huge for Røkkr as he starts the game off 9 and 2. Attach falls just one kill away from streaks and LA Thieves eventually gain control of the hardpoint and scores on the third hill. LA Thieves take the lead 76-50 into the fourth hill. As we go to a listen-in with LA Thieves you can hear how on-point their call-outs and communication is, and it pays off resulting in a lead of 135-100. Minnesota Røkkr, can’t recover from the point deficit and LA Thieves take map one, 250- 162.

Map 2: Berlin Search & Destroy

The crowd is on their feet chanting for Minnesota Røkkr to come out on top with a win on Berlin. Going into map 2 LA Thieves shots are hot and they take the first round of Search and Destroy. Røkkr quickly bounces back winning two crucial rounds in a row. LA Thieves however tie the game up as they put another round under their belt. The game is at an even 2-2 score, but those two rounds quickly turn into 4 rounds for Minnesota Røkkr. The plays and overall teamwork coming from Røkkr proves to be too much for LA Thieves to handle and Minnesota Røkkr takes the map 2 victory, 6-2.

Map 3: Gavutu Control

Minnesota Røkkr gets LA Thieves in a nasty spawn trap early in the game, this map looks promising for Røkkr as they continue to slay. Attach is on an impressive 8 kill streak. There is trouble in paradise when LA Thieves flip the script and eliminate each Rokkr and wins the first round of control. Røkkr keeps their cool going into the second round and continues to demonstrate their slaying power. They end up taking the second round of the control and the score is tied 1-1. As close as this map was, LA Thieves eventually takes the win, 2-1 over Minnesota Røkkr.

Map 4: Berlin Hardpoint

“It is never chalked” tweets begin to roll in as we head into the fourth and potentially final map of the night. Minnesota Røkkr needs to summon strength from within and win Berlin Hardpoint. Both teams looking strong in the early minutes of this match, but in the blink of an eye, LA Thieves begin to pull away. As LA Thieves go up by almost 100 points Minnesota Røkkr seems to be losing momentum. The crowd cries out once again with “Let’s go Røkkr”. The team does everything in their power to keep themselves in this game but it’s not enough. A valiant effort from the boys in purple, but LA Thieves take this series 3-1. And that is going to conclude Day 2 of the CDL OpTic Major.
