RLCSX NA Spring Regional Day 2
Version1 vs RBG Esports
Following months of positive momentum and a steady climb up the rankings, Version1 regressed in the Spring Regionals with a top 16 finish. V1 started the Knockout Gauntlet stage of the event in the loser’s bracket due to a lackluster performance in group play, and didn’t fare any better Saturday in losing 3-1 to RBG.
RBG Esports must have known they were seen as the underdog of this match. They started off with an aggressive attack. Mile scored off a run down the field, beating Torment to the net and added a second goal on a counter attack with 2:27 left to play. Torment nearly scored in the upper right hand corner but it was deflected away at the last minute. Another near miss with :30 seconds remaining was the end of V1’s attempts to get on the board, as Stokelyy netted goal 3. Version1 falls 0-3.
Stokelyy scored off the kick-off to start game 2 but Version1 quickly answered with a goal from Gimmick. A series of demolitions opened up a chance and Torment took it, scoring with 2:03 left to play. Comm scored shortly after on a counter and it looked like the V1 offense was waking up. Gimmick added a 4th goal on a beautiful pass from Comm and Torment piled on with a fifth. Version1 easily takes game 2, 5-1.
Things seemed to even out a bit in game 3, as each team settled in to counter the strategy of the other. The first goal came from Stokelyy shortly after the half way point. Version1 countered aggressively looking for the equalizer but the execution wasn’t there. V1 falls, 1-0 in game 3.
RBG Esports set the pace of the game from the start, looking to send V1 home. Stokelyy scored on a double bounce off the goal post about a minute in and then beat Torment off the kickoff for a second goal. Mile added a third goal and RBG’s defense turned up the heat to hold on to its 3-0 lead. Torment finally broke through with a minute left to score, but it wasn’t enough. Version1 falls 3-1 and exits the Regional early.
