RLCS X Spring Split Regional: V1 falls in round of 8, after rallying against G2 to force a Game 7
Version1 faced G2 on Sunday, the final day of the RLCS X Spring Split Regional and even though the games were relatively low-scoring, the action was spicy. G2 started off strong but Version1 battled to stay in the best-of-7 match-up, resulting in a few nail biters that went to overtime. After coming back down three games, Version1 evened it up at 3-3 before falling in game 7, 0-1. With that, Version1 exits the tournament. GGs to G2. We’ll see you next time.
Game 1: Rizzo scored a minute in after a tough commit. There was an intense moment of action where it appeared Comm was going to put the ball back door, but it didn’t get through. Ultimately, Gimmick evened the score, but Jknaps came flying back to answer immediately. G2 takes it, 2-1.
Game 2: Version1 kept the pressure on to keep the ball in G2’s half and on its goal for much of the match. Despite this steadfast lock, including some great looks by Comm and Torment, at 0:43 remaining, Chicago got through and G2 emerged with the 0-1 victory, going up two games to start things off.
Game 3: The struggle continued for V1, despite strong resolve on offense and an impressive defensive stand to stay in the game. Gimmick scored first to give V1 the lead until G2 answered with just over one minute left. Rizzo followed that up with a soft touch goal to seal a game 3 victory.
Game 4: Down and nearly out of the match-up, Version1 showed up and scored first. Early on, Torment grabbed the lead and the team held on until a minute remained when Chicago threaded a shot in to level things up at 1-1. In OT, G2 turned on the pressure, but V1 held on defense; Comm had an insane save to stay in it then Gimmick scored to take the overtime win. Game 4 finishes at 2-1 OT. V1 was still alive.
Game 5: The heat is on and neither team could score for the first three minutes of action. Eventually, V1 found then net with a slow rolling goal from Gimmick followed by a second, high beamer from Torment. V1 takes game 5, 2-0. G2 calls for a timeout.
Game 6: Jknaps scored the first goal, stuffing it in the back of the net after some early pressure from his squad. Comm came back to answer with a bomb shortly after to tie things up and then Rizzo netted one of his own. V1 battled back on offense, pressuring the net for what felt like ages, before Gimmick put it home. The game goes to overtime. After eight minutes of pure intensity, Torment buries one to force a game 7. V1 takes a timeout.
Game 7: Both teams battled hard to claim victory and move on to the quarterfinals. After a full three and a half minutes, Chicago nets the only goal of the match. G2 takes game 7 and the match.
