V1RL vs NRG

Version1’s impeccable defense helped power a 4-0 victory against NRG in the team’s first group stage match of RLCS Worlds 2022.

Game 1

The opening kickoff went in favor of Version1, but the two teams quickly established a holding pattern of trading offensive control back and forth. Despite multiple close plays on both sides of the field, the game remained scoreless moving into the final minute of regulation.

Version1 and NRG continued to try and find openings, but neither team was able to score a goal before the clock hit zero and the match moved to overtime. Version1 made a clinical drive towards NRG’s goal, culminating in a game-winning goal from Comm. The final score was 1-0 in favor of Version1.

Game 2

NRG and Version1 continued to lock horns in a fierce defensive struggle, and the score remained 0-0 as the clock ticked down and the end of regulation approached. Version1 set up an aggressive play on NRG’s half, and a clean shot from BeastMode landed successfully, giving Version1 a 1-0 lead in the game. NRG made a final last-second attempt on Version1’s goal, but a heroic save prevented the equalizer and secured them a win.

Game 3

The defensive battle between Version1 and NRG continued in the third game of the series, and despite both teams applying solid offensive pressure, the match was scoreless at the end of the first half. NRG found a rare opening in Version1’s defense and scored their first goal of the series, taking a 1-0 lead. Version1 hunted for opportunities to tie the game as the second half played out, and a late game drive on NRG’s side of the pitch proved successful — with only a single second left on the clock, BeastMode scored, tying the match and bringing the two teams into their second overtime of the series.

The two teams traded control of the ball back and forth in overtime, and as the pressure mounted, Torment held his ground at Version1’s goal, cleanly deflecting a series of shots from NRG. After nearly three minutes of overtime, Version1 found their opening, and supported by a brilliant pass from Beastmode, Comm scored the winning goal of the match. The final score was 2-1 in favor of Version1.

Game 4

NRG took an unexpected early lead in the fourth game of the series, but Version1 quickly replied with a goal of their own from BeastMode. With the game tied at 1-1, the two teams entered yet another defensive stalemate, and Version1 continued to comfortably deny NRG’s attempts on goal as the end of regulation approached. The third overtime of the series arrived, and after shutting down a heavy offensive commitment from NRG towards Version1’s goal, Torment took a decisive shot and scored the game-winning goal.

The final series score was 4-0 in favor of Version1.
