Version1 vs Cloud9

Map 1 Haven: 13-5 

At 9 PM CT, as the sun set on Viking Lakes in Eagan, V1 found ourselves in the Lower Bracket Finals against a tough C9 Blue squad, with the winner getting to go to Iceland. Version1 started out on defense and immediately churned out to a 5-1 lead. Follwed by some tough eco rounds by V1 as our buys were a bit rough, C9 was able to take a couple rounds but it wasn’t enough to stop a couple 4K rounds from Zellsis. At the switch, we were up 8-4. 

Two well-executed rounds later, we were up 10-4 after a great pistol round and force buy from the V1 guys to put C9 in a tough spot. Penny was 22-9-1 going into round 18’s match point. C9 pushed A hard, but was forced to rotate B, and eventually C as Zellsis popped his Reyna Empress ult. We take the Split map and head to map two!

Map 2 Ascent: 5-13

Momentum carried over into map two following some impressive round wins by C9 Blue. We forced our way to a couple round victories on our offensive stance, but it was a tough bout to end up 2-6 on the back end of the first half. Lots of good plays from C9 and just not enough from our guys to keep things THAT tight. We go down 3-9 at the switch. 

As we began the second half, it felt like we’d be able to mount our start at a comeback. We utilized some clean site retakes to make it 5-10, hopeful to hold out behind our guys pure elimination abilities. Version1 couldn’t battle back, and we fell 5-13 in a spicy map two. 

Map 3 Split: 13-7

It was our turn to take the pistol rounds this time, jumping out to a 2-0 lead on Split. It was promising to see the Version1 boys take 4 of the first 6 to make it 4-2 midway through the V1 defensive stand. C9 Blue had not let up all day long, even against Sentinels, and map three against us was not different. Thanks to an immense Raze Show Stopper ult in round 9 from Zellsis, we were able to steal a late first half round from C9’s offense to make it 7-5.

We didn’t do anything different, and we kept our consistent slaying up. Three straight rounds, including two pistol rounds, go the way of V1 and before we knew it, V1 was up 10-5. V1 mixed up their attack alternating rounds and taking it all the way to a massive match point. With Iceland on the line, it was a 12-7 scoreline. We fragged out on B site, pushed our way in to plant AND SECURED DUB. WE’RE HEADED TO ICELAND.
